True Fact Behind The White Spots On Your Finger Nails
We all have been told from the beginning that the white spots on our nails are caused due to some health issues. Some say due to the deficiency of Calcium and some even think deficiency of Zinc being a reason. Some physician still believe the reason of white nails being the sign of zinc and calcium deficiency, without knowing the fact that it is just a myth.

Andrew Weil, an American celebrity doctor says, the white spots on nail you notice are not caused by a calcium deficiency. They are formed due to an allergic reaction of nail polish, a mild infection or a minor internal injury.
The White spot that appear on the nails is termed as Leukonychia, also known as white nails or milk spot. It is a medical term used for white spots appearing on nails.
Leukonychia is derived from the Greek words ‘leuko’(White) and ‘onux’(Nail). This is because of the injury caused to the base of the nail where the nail is formed.
It is painless and most commonly caused by minor injuries, such as nail biting, that occur while the nail is growing. White spot shows up after six weeks after the injury, till then you have probably forgotten about the banging or knocking of your fingers. Some times the injury can also occur from the manicure that have put much pressure on the fingernail ends. White nails occurs most commonly in healthy entity, unrelated to any psychological deficiency.
While the spots are limited, they grow out as your nail grows. It depends on how fast your nail grows, it can take more than 8 months for the leukonychia to be completely gone.
Nails usually grow about one eight of an inch per month. Poor nutrition, aging and infections are the reasons of poor nail growth.
