Fish Oil Boosts Brain Power, Improves Mood
Fish oil which includes omega 3 fatty acids helps to raise brain functions and act as an anti – inflammatory in the body. It was also formed that it helps soldiers and athletes manage harsh training better.
According to researchers, involved in Texas A&M university instructor and his earlier doctoral student identified that low concentration of fish oil in the blood and insufficient physical activity can add to the high levels of depressed mood among soldiers returning from combat.
The study also proved that fish oil content is specially important for soldiers because of the amount of regular training and physical activities performed during and after combat, and risk for traumatic brain injury.
The experiment was handled by Major Nicholas Barringer when he was a Texas A&M doctoral student under the guidance of health and kinesiology professor and department head Richard Keider together with several current and earlier members of the US army which accounted to 100 soldiers and comrades at Texas A&M. The experimenters wanted to conclude the factors that affect the moods of those who returned from combat.
Kreider says “we noticed at how physical activity levels and performance measures were linked to mood state and resiliency”.
The study commenced from examination that tested omega 3 fatty acid levels of soldiers who committed suicide related to non – suicide control and found lower omega 3 levels in the blood were combined with increased risk of being in the suicide group. According to the scientists, these findings are important in addressing the issues a lot of soldiers face.
Barringer and Kreider generated a description to properly measure soldiers physically, which has the potential to help in effectively screening soldiers with possible Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD in advance.
The description is capable to accurately measure some components including psychometric assessments, physical activity, fitness and added analysis.
