First Human Head Transplant Surgery Planned
Now when technology has reached its height, the medical world is doing best to make living easy. Doctors and scientist are working day and night to make impossible things turn possible. They have been creating wonders to help those suffering from various health issues.
The medical technology has granted doctors the ability to transplant organs from one person to another. But no body part has been transplanted yet. But sooner Dr. Sergio Canavero is planning to conduct the first human head transplant.
Dr. Sergio Canavero, the Italian Neuroscientist, is preparing for a “Frankenstein” Surgery by reanimating human corpses. Dr Canavero came years before with the claim to perform head transplant. But many stood against him and nobody supported his work. From well known doctors to patients had very low faith in his work. But out of the crowd a man who believed Dr. Canavero has decided to undergo this risk.
A Russian man Valery Spiridonov, is set to become the first person to undergo the head transplant.
Valery is suffering from Werdnig-Hoffmann disease, a rare form of spinal muscular atrophy.
Dr. Canavero will carry out a most expensive transplant and is likely to take 36 hours and will involve over 150 doctors and nurses.
The operation will involve cooling his head to around 12 degrees, cutting it from his body and connecting it to the donated body of a brain-dead person.
After the surgery Valery will be kept in a medically-induced coma for three to four weeks while doctors stimulate his spinal cord nerves to reconnect and start functioning.
Valery is well known about the fact of risk. Being negotiated by his dear ones he is still wanting to undergo the transplant.
But surgeons believe the opinion dividing procedure could cause Valery to go insane or die.
After knowing all the risks Dr Canavero is stuck on the faith that Valero will not only live with his new body but will also be able to walk within a year of operation.
