Different types of headaches and their symptoms

Headache is very common and that almost everyone experiences pain in the head or neck area at one time or another. Should you experience severe, persistent or frequent headaches, start recording the details of your symptoms, everything you did or experienced on headache days, including food, drinks, the weather and exposure  to smoke, odors or bright light, and schedule a visit with your health care provider.

  • Tension Headache

Tension-type headache also known as muscle contraction headache is the most common of all headaches. Tension-type headache is often experienced in the forehead, may be in the back of the head and neck, or in both regions. It is commonly described as a steady or tight pressure feeling, as if the head were in a vise. Soreness in the shoulders or neck is common. Sufferers of tension-type headaches are more sensitive to lighter than the general population, even between attacks. They also may suffer from visual disturbances. Tension-type headaches  do not cause limit activities or nausea as migraine headaches do. Tension-type headaches can last minutes to days.

  • Sinus headache

Sinus headache occurs in the intensifies between the eyes and sinus area. The stuffy feeling in the nose that lasts for a few days and develops into pain along the nasal and forehead area could be more than just a simple cold. Pressure caused by swelling,  sinus infections and inflammation can easily block the passageway for mucus and air, thereby making it difficult to breathe and transforming the stuffiness into pain and an almost intolerable sinus headache. Sinus headaches are one of the most vexing results of sinus pressure. Along with a stuffy nose, cough and fatigue, they can readily ruin even the best days. Moving your head, lying down or bending it, the pain grows.

  • Headaches caused due to digestive problems.

Another important cause of headache is due to gas, patients get physically unfit with a broad range of ailments such as stomach pain, heartburn, dullness, chest pain, anxiety and inflammation in the stomach. Some chronic patients may also experience vomiting and dizziness.

Causes of intestinal gas are bacteria which help in digestion and swallowing excess air. This will happens usually when we drink, eat, chew gum or use a straw while drinking.

  • Stress Headache

Stress headache is also called tension headaches, chronic non-progressive headaches, chronic daily headaches, they are the most common type among adults and teens. Stress headache cause mild to moderate pain and come and go over time.

  • Migraine Headache

Migraine headaches are most common and well known headaches and start with a piercing pain in the mornings which is elevated by any kind of physical activity or movement. The symptoms of migraines are sensitivity to light, nausea, odors or noise, vomiting, forming spots in front of your eyes, etc.

One of the biggest reasons for migraine is stress. Migraines often affect people who are emotional and fragile. Often, this headache can happen during the menstrual cycle. Other factors that can cause this headache are irregular eating habits, insomnia and smoking.

  • Anxiety headache

Anxiety headaches as feeling like they have an odd pressure in their head and their head feels like it is about to explode.

Anxiety headaches may occur as a response to feeling anxious or stressed, or may occur for no apparent reason. Anxiety headaches can be mildly noticeable, greatly problematic or moderately bothersome. They can occur persistently, rarely and frequently and may change from day to day and even moment to moment.
