Myth: RAMA SETU OR ADAM BRIDGE
Rama setu or Rama’s bridge is also known as Adam’s bridge. The word rama setu is formed from Sanskrit language and it’s called as iramar palam in Tamil. Rama Setu starts as a chain of shoals from Dhanushkodi located between the Pamban island, also known as Rameswaram island and end’s at Sri Lanka’s Mannar island. The construction of Rama Setu is described in the Chapter title of ‘Yudha Kanda’ in Ramayana.
Rama Setu is built by the vanara army with instructions of Viswakarma’s sons (Nala and Neel) under the super vision of Rama. Rama used this bridge to reach Lanka and rescued his wife Sita from Rakshasa King Ravana.
ROLES OF NALA AND NEEL IN RAMAYANA
Nala is the son of Viswakarma and Nila is described as the son of Agni. Ramayana credits Nala as the sole builder of the Rama Setu. Nala initiated a monumental bridge in the middle of ocean. On the first day, 14 yoganas (around 182 kms) of bridge was constructed speedly. In the same manner, the second day the 20 yoganas of bridge were constructed.

Rama Setu is built by a group of lime stone shoals. The age and structure of Rama Setu is nearly 1.7 million years old. It took 5 days to built by 10 million Vanaras(monkeys) under the super vision of architects Nala and Neel. The distance is 30 km long and 3 km wide. It starts from the Dhanushkodi and it ends at Srilanka’s Island mannar.
MYSTERIES ABOUT THE FLOATING STONES
Geologists says that Rama Setu is built naturally but failed to provide enough proofs. In Ramayana it is mentioned that the bridge was built by stones group of lime stone shoals. Some stones were scattered during Tsunamis, and these stones still float on water. Apart from Ramayana there are several facts which say Rama Setu is a man made structure.

According to the Hindu mythology the Rama Setu was built by lord Rama. Stones used to make the bridge floated on the river because Rama was written on stones. But there is a complete scientific explanation about why stones floated on water and why rama setu is still under water.
