The Story Behind The Famous Apple Company Logo
To have an I phone is just a class and attitude. Who doesn’t want to own one for themselves. Credit goes to the company’s unending efforts.
Apple is one of the most famous American Multinational Technology Company situated in California, U.S. It is the world’s largest information technology company by revenue, world’s largest technology company by total assets and world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer by volume, after Samsung.
As we all know Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in April 1976 to develop and sell personal computers. It was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc. in January 1977, and was renamed as Apple Inc, in January 2007 to reflect its shifted focus towards computer electronics.
The Apple Logo Controversies
Every body loves Apple products but nobody is aware about the struggles and the work in bringing it to such a level.
Many controversies and rumors had come out on the fact about the apple logo.
For years there had been rumors that the logo was inspired by the death of Alan Turing, the ground breaking mathematician and computer scientist, who committed suicide by eating a cyanide-laced apple in 1954.
One more theory rumor was given by closely relating it to the symbol of sin. The bite off the apple was related to the story of Eve in the Bible, who brought sin to the world with eating apple of the forbidden tree.
In an interview with Rob Jonaff, who drew the logo, reflected on the theories about his work. There he dismissed all other rumors. He stated thta the bite on the apple logo was to really let people know that it was an apple and not cherry. The bite was also related with the computer stuffs at that time because it had a similar sound of the word “BYTE”, a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunication.
History Of The Apple Logo
When Steve Jobs was planning the name of the company, he discussed about the name to Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple Inc. When Jobs told about the word “APPLE”, Wozniak laughed and said that it is a computer company and not a fruit store. Jobs, after this reply from Wozniak, however did not change his decision about the name ‘Apple’, but thought differently.
Years back during a press conference, on asking Job why had he named the company APPLE, he said
“I like apples and love to eat them. But the main idea behind the apple was to bring simplicity to the people, in the most sophisticated way and that was it, nothing else.”
The First Logo
In 1976, Ronald Wayne, the third co-founder of the Apple company, designed its first Newton Crest Logo. The logo showed Sir Isaac Newton, sitting under an apple tree. This signified about the fruit falling on his head and he revolutionized the news of gravity.
When looking carefully on the logo, the phrase on the outside border reads, “Newton.. A mind forever voyaging through strange seas of thought.. alone.”
The Rainbow Logo
After the Newtons Crest, Jobs decided to explore something new and different. For this he hired Rob Janoff as the designer to come up with something modern. And the logo created history as it became the most iconic logo. This logo was active from 1976 to 1988.
The story behind the “Rainbow Coloured” Apple logo was that Job’s wanted everyone to think different.
The Monochrome Logo
One of the main reason for the coming up of the monochrome logo was that the new Mac computers were being manufactured with metal casing instead of plastic one and the sight of a rainbow logo on a metal computer did not fit well. The new logo has been active since 1988 and is continuing till present.
