South Korean Novel Wins The World’s Biggest Translation Awards

In the history, for the first time South Korea gets the Booker prize. South Korean author Hang Kang has one of the man Booker international prize.

Hang Kang, an author and creative writing teacher who is already successful in South Korea. She is likely to enjoy a spike in international sales following the win of her book “The Vegetarian.” She is the first Korean to win the prize. The story describes a protagonist who wants to become a plant and to leave the human race to save her from the dark side human nature. The novel has been praised on both sides of the Atlantic. It is visionary, strange and transgressive.

The chairman of the Booker prize management Boy Ton kin described the book ” The Vegetarian” is very bold, realistic and creative. This is the first book of Hang Kang translated to English. Many World philosophers like the content of the book.

Life of Han Kang
Hang Kang is the daughter of novelist Han Seung Won. She was born in Kwangju. she studied Korean literature at Yonsei University. She began her writing career in poems. “The Scarlet Anchor” was one of her famous short story.

About the Translations of The Vegetarian
The book translated by Deborah Smith, a English scholar who began learning Korean only 7 years ago. Deborah said, ‘The vegetarian’ is my first ever translation book. This gives me beautiful moments and wonderful experience.
