The Positive Side Of Piercing
Body piercing is considered as a form of body modification, in which a part of a human body is cut and created an opening to wear any kind of jewelry. Piercing has been practiced from ancient times and in many cultures usually to identify a person as courageous, strong or worthy. The trend was carried over by both genders and is still into practice. The history goes very deep and unique for every kind of piercing. Ornaments have always been a point of attraction for women, but piercing has many scientific reasons also because of which they are under practice till now.
All around the world piercing has taken its trend. It became popular in the United States in the early 1990’s and that spread widely all over the world. In the Indian culture, Hinduism has made piercing mandatory due to many religious believes. Earlier piercing was practiced only on ears and nose, but slowly piercings of the naval, nose, eyebrows, lips, tongue, nipples and genitals also became popular.
Many people do not consider it appropriate as they do have some negative impacts. But besides these negative sides they do have positive sides and reasons to why piercing is practiced.
- Ear Piercing– It is one of those piercing fondly loved by both men and women. In olden days, where there were no schools except ‘gurukuls‘, students used to get their ears pierced before getting educated. This was because the middle point of the ear lobe has several acupressure points which is responsible for sharp mind, intellect and good concentration. It is also said to prevent hearing problems and deafness. It keeps reproductive systems fit and also treat majority kinds of related issues. Ear piercing also prevents and treats bone problems among males. Children reaching the age of three to four undergo ear piercing to help in faster development of brain.
- Nose Piercing– It is said that the nerves from the left nostrils are linked with the female reproductive systems, that is why women are told to pierce the left side of the nose to help ease child birth. According to Ayurvedic therapy, piercing the nose around the specific node of the nostrils reduces the pain experienced by women during menstrual cycle. It is considered to be the easiest piercing as it heals sooner and can be maintained without any special care.
- Lip Piercing or Labret Piercing– Some tribal people considered it as status symbol and ritual, now it is considered as a sign of femininity and beauty. It is mainly practiced to attract people. Like nose piercing it also heals faster hence used fondly.
- Tongue Piercing– Unlike other it also heals faster and is less noticed. It is mainly used for other kinds of physical pleasure, but is mostly avoided due to its more number of harms than benefits.
- Navel Piercing– Another trend used only for fashion, however some do relate it with ancient rituals. It is also done for attraction and also practiced by many women as it can be easily hidden.
- Eyebrow Piercing- It was introduced by the punk sculptures in the 1970’s again as a fashion point of view. It has no major significance like others.
