Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi(October 2, 1869 – January 30, 1948) the lawyer,social activist,writer and leader of India during freedom fight for Indian Independence from British Empire.His great Sathyagrahas and influence over the social reformers led India to be Independent.As he came to be considered as the “Father of the Nation”.Millions of Indians say he as the “Great Soul”.The name Mahatma Gandhi is universally recognized by the whole world.With the leadership of mahatma he outdated the Hindu custom such as sathi, dowry and untouchability.As a memeber of Indian National Congress mahatma led a nation wide, nonviolent campaign against Britishers saying “Quit India”.He considered all the people of India as equal without any caste recognition that made the Gandhiji as Mahatma for all Indians.
A 10 year old girl from Lucknow Aishwarya Parashar, a class six student of City Montessori School, Rajajipuram branch get excited and interested of knowing the term Father of the Nation from her six standard social studies text book.Then she keep asking on her mother Urvashi Sharma Why and for what reason Gandhiji is called as the father of the nation.Her mother has no perfect answer to the question.Then Aishwarya Parashar had filed number of petitions to RTI on Feb 2012 seeking the details about Gandhi and the reasons of referring him as Father of the Nation.The answer for her by the government,” Shyamala Mohan, Director and Central Public Information Officer (CPIO), said in a reply dated June 18 this 2012 no such title is accorded to Gandhiji.Then she wrote to the former president Prathibha Patel and the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to issue a notification declaring Mahatma Gandhi as ‘Father of the Nation’.The same answer she got from the Home Ministry.
MHA and National Archives Of India have no records about this statement.Subhash Chandra Bose in 1944 and Sarojini Naidu in 1947 addressed Gandhiji as the Father of the Nation. MHA informed that Gandhiji cannot be accorded as the father of the nation by the Government of India.The Article 18 (1) of the Constitution specifically provides Indian Constitution gives this title to the Educational and Military purpose.
