A Road That Glows at Dark
Where we are busy enforcing on the matter of increasing street lights, Poland creates a path lane that glows in the dark, without using any source of electricity or charge. This is to help bicycle riders for helping them ride during night time. It glows to such an extend that people do not require street lights there.
It was created by the famous TPA Instytut Badan Technicznych. They seek forward to a safe future where there would be less amounts of pedestrian and bicycle accidents that happen during night time. This glowing path lane is found near Lidzbark Warminski in the Northern Poland.
This glowing path is not a result of art, it has been well planned and put into implementation. This path uses the most common compound known as Phosphor, a synthetic material that has the capability of absorbing light during the day and emitting out that light during night. This is the reason why the path glows at night.
This project was inspired by a similar work known as “STARRY NIGHT BIKE LANE” carried out in Netherlands created by Studio Roosegaarde, which was again inspired by other similar works. But the technology used here was quite different as they used LED lights to glow and it required an external energy to activate the lights. Whereas TPA’s way was very economical and Eco-friendly as it worked on the basis of Solar Energy.
It was said that the synthetic material has the capability to emit light of various colors and TPA group chose blue according to the appearance of the landscape and its beauty. The lane is very carefully built with an additional coating on the material. This is done so that the material stays there and is not spoiled due to regular cycling and walking.
TPA also reported that this work was just a test on a small scale area. This lane is still on test. They look forward in expanding their project over a larger scale and spread their work to many different countries for the benefit of the people. Many Countries have opted for this innovative technique and many have started working on it too.
