ISRO Set To Create A Record Of Launching The Maximum Number Of Satellites
ISRO has always surprised us with their launching and other research stories. ISRO Chief had marked the year 2016 as a good year for India’s Space exploration mission and hopes 2017 to be even better.
Now, India is all set to create a new history by launching 104 satellites together in a go, including 101 foreign satellites, from Sriharikota Spaceport, Andhra Pradesh on 15 feb, 2017. The Officials of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) stated that they will be launching the satellites in one go at around 9 am into the sun-synchronous orbit, that is 500 km above the earth.
Reports say that, of the total satellites, it consist of 3 Indian satellites, 88 of US and others from Netherlands, Israel, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and the UAE (United Arab Emirates).
“A 320 tonne rocket- Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C37)- will launch all the satellites with a combined weight of 1,500 kg, including the 650 kg of remote sensing Cartosat-2 and two nano satellites (IA and IB) weighing 15 kg each”- said the ISRO officials.
Though the Indian Space Agency had launched 22 satellites in one shot on June 22, 2016, 37 launch record set in June 2014 and 29 satellites in 2013 launched by NASA, the launch of 104 satellite this year will beat all other records.
Earlier it was reported that ISRO was about to launch 83 satellites together, three being Indian and 80 foreign, on January. However, the Indian Space Agency added 21 more satellites and had the launch postponed to February 15, 2017. Jitendra Singh in Lok Sabha last month stated that these international customer satellites are being launched as a part of the commercial arrangement between them and Antrix Corporation Limited, the commercial arm and PSU under the ISRO.
ISRO Chief revealed that they are planning to launch at least five communication satellites along with many more earth observatories in 2017. Till date, ISRO has launched over 50 foreign satellites. By lifting the 101 foreign satellites, they are going to make a new record of launching the maximum number of satellites. Having already put 122 satellites into the orbit, India is hoping to double the number in a go.
