A Room Where You Can Hear Your Heart Beats
Have you heard about the World’s most QUIETEST ROOM? And what if you come to know that you can listen to your heart beats there? Yes! This is possible in the “AN-ECHOIC CHAMBER” created by MICROSOFT in the Orfield Laboratory, USA. This place has been certified to be one of the Guinness world records.
We all love it, but when it comes to reality it is just unbearable. And that is SILENCE. This perfect silence is achieved in the Anechoic Chamber situated in South Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Researchers say that the place is so silent that you are able to listen to your heart beats and blood flowing even. This silence is unbearable. People in the room reach a stage of hallucination, an uncomfortable stage where you feel some sort of unnatural pressure on yourself.
They say that the room is built with lots of expenses and is being taken at most care. The room is built with a number of foam wedges all around placed in a perpendicular pattern among each other. There is a spring floor on which a person stands. The room has the ability to absorb 99.99% of sound waves only because of these wedges.
The science behind the silence of the room is that the low frequency sound waves bounce between the wedges and keep bouncing forever. On the other hand the high frequency sounds absorb itself into the foam resulting into no sound.
People who have been there reported that they feel pressure, claustrophobic-an uneasy feeling of being in a closed room and anxiety. Some say they feel as being in a coffin. You also feel dizzy, disoriented and even nauseous. Till now there has been a record of a 45 minute stay only. You cannot stand there, people are advised to sit so that you are in more of a stable stage.
Some reporters reported that in the beginning you feel relaxed and free, but slowly and gradually you will start hearing every movement of yours. You then start listening your heart beats and then your blood flow and also your organs working. After then is you start feeling uneasy.
This state may occur due to the regular habit of being in a primary noise stage. Primary noise here is referred to the noises that we hear in our daily routine, such as the sound of vehicles, fan, etc. When we get used to any situation, then any change in it probably causes an uneasiness.
Now the question that arises is that why would Microsoft want to invest so much in such innovation, where they itself are not comfortable? The answer is that this Anechoic Chamber has may uses too.
Many production companies examine their products maximum noise and other related noise handling capacity.
On the other hand they have proved to be very essential to our astronauts. Astronauts are made to stay in these rooms and tested for their ability of handling such conditions. As space is another example of “noiseless room”.
This proves that innovations not only look forward on investments or profits or new achievements, but also on the betterment of our world and its production.
