Worlds First Aircraft Was Made By An Indian!!!

In 1895, world’s first aircraft demonstrated in India, eight years before when the Wright Brothers succeeded it at Kitty Chowk, North Carolina, USA in 1903 . The evidences clearly say that the aircraft was successfully demonstrated at the Sandy Chowpathy beach of Mumbai, India on June 1895. Shivakar Bapuji Thalped, an Indian scientist and Sanskrit scholar was the man behind this experiment.

At the Chowpathy beach, in the presence of Shri Sayaji Rao Gaekwa who was the Maharaja(King/ Ruler) of Baroda during that time, Thalped’s wife and a huge crowd, Shivakar Bapuji Thalped created an innovation. It was the first aircraft “Marutsakhawas” flown through the sky with a velocity of 40,000 Km/hr. The craft flown up to a height of 1500 feet and landed safely. This news was published in a news paper the very next day. Famous news paper named “Kesari” was that news paper which published the news about this achievement.

The Interesting Fact

There is an interesting fact behind this invention. This experiment was made with the help of ancient Indian scripts known as “Vedas“. These scripts consisted of “Vihmanika Shastra” meaning aeronautical science and some “Suthras”(formulas)  about the manufacturing of aircraft written by rishi Bharatwaja that was taken from Suparaaya Shastri. Thalped gathered the knowledge from Rig Veda and vimanika shastra. The fund for this experiment was spent by the Maharaja(King)Shri Sayaji Rao Gaekwa.

But, the real fact we should understand is that the science of modern aircraft in those days were clearly written with more advanced formulas and ideas than what we currently have and it is hard to believe that these scripts were written about 10,000 years ago. In these scripts, aeronautical science is discussed and described in 8 chapters, 100 sections , 3000 Slokas and that consist of about various techniques and principles for making an air craft. Can you believe that an aircraft which is working with an engine by consuming  solar energy was mentioned in vimanika shastra? Yes it is a fact, Bharatwaja’s vimanika shastra says about the modern solar air crafts too.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE  SCIENTIST ???

Do you know how the great scientist  Shivakar Bapuji Thalped was treated for this invention, When the news published in the news paper Thalped was imprisoned by the British Rulers. And they warned the Maharaja for encouraging the scientist. After some years Thalped was released. When he got back from the jail he heard the news about the death of his wife. This made him more depressed. The harassment and the tragedy in his life, lead him to withdrew the research. In 1916, the great aeronautic scientist passed away and his relative sold some of his important works to other people.

COMPARISON

While comparing the crafts made by Thalped and Wright Brothers, we can see the difference in performance and perfection. When the Wright brothers craft flew 120 feet, Thalped’s unnamed aircraft flown about 1500 feet and landed safely without any damage. It can be considered as the first model of mercury vertex engine which is developed by the NASA nearly.

In ancient Indian scripts, various kinds of aircraft are discussed which have unbelievable features like making a plane invisible, making motionless, taking photographs from the interior of enemy planes and so on.

As we are forgetting to learn “Sanskrit”, we should know that we are loosing the key to the treasure of science, technology and culture which was left by our ancestors….
