While reading this many may not be aware of the words consisting of jumbled words. Many may be feeling great that they are able to read it without any difficulty. And some may have faced a little problem in reading it. Such type of memes have been very viral on the internet. But has anybody thought about the reason behind why are we able to read such text so easily?

How Are We Able To Read Such Text

Now some people think that it is all about your smartness or intelligence. But actually it is all about your brain’s work and some about your memory. It is the ability of your brain to understand the words and predict out the sentences.

Many researchers working on Psychology came to number of assumptions and conclusions as well as findings.

  • Short words or 2-3 letter words are easy to understand. Also functional words like is, the, an, of, etc are easily detectable. As the number of jumbled letters are less, it becomes easy to analyse the correct word.
  • According to research it is said that if in a sentence there are some correct words, people find it more easy to analyse and read the sentence correctly. And if you are told to find the individual letters in a sentence, you are more likely to find it difficult in detecting.
  • According to a study in reading systems, when letters are jumbled adjacently they are easier to detect rather than placing letters distantly. To analyse the words at the extreme ends are more easier than analyzing it from the letters in between.

According to a Psychological review some researchers proposed a model of word recognition. They said when we read, each word is split in half as the information in the retina is divided between the two hemispheres of the brain. According to their study keeping words in their appropriate half, reduces the difficulty of reading jumbled words.

  • In some words however you may twist or turn the letters, you end up analyzing the same word. For example that, salt. Try to rearrange these words, you wont get any other words from them.
  • We have the ability to preserve sounds of words. We tend to read it in our minds. This makes it easy to analyse words.
  • Some text are commonly predictable. Our brain has a wonderful power to predict which is another reason for us to detect jumbled words.
  • A major finding is that our mind does not read every letter but the word as a whole, except in some rare conditions when people have some brain injury in which they tend to read word letter by letter.

In this case, study made by cognitive scientist reveal that while reading such passages our brain rarely correspond to digits. They suggested that letter-like appearance of the digits as well as their context, influence more on our brains than the actual digits. The researchers say that here our consciousness tells us what to do, where it allow us to ignore that slight difference and read the sentence easily.
