Believe it or not,In India a small village in Maharashtra were 300 buildings-homes,educational institutions and even banks have”no doors”.All valuable things are stored in the home itself in the strong container and its unlocked.Even most of the public toilets have no doors,but according to certain special request of women they put curtains to hide near the entrance.They doesn’t put doors because they do not go against there belief.Some of them put loose doors at night to prevent from wild animals.The villagers doesn’t need any security measures because of there undying god”Shani (God of Saturn)”.They say that they have no need of doors because the god Shani will protect them from all dangers.
The villagers believe that if a person steels anything or do insincere he will face a period of seven-and-a-half years of bad luck .Shani’s power is unable to challenge and he look over this village.According to the myth about 300 years ago,an iron and stone slab deposited on the side of the river shore during a flood and began to leak out blood.The farmers poked it with a stick.Later that, slab was declared as an idol of Shani.Shani who is present in the planet Saturn and he will not let the thieves to the open village.About 15 years ago sugar cane farming was the main source of income ,now tourism is the primary source of income and 40,000 visitors are daily visiting.
The local state owned UCO Bank is situated in this village and thus there is not having door but have a glass front door without a conventional lock.Money and Gold ornaments are held in the strong room with on the bank itself.The bank employees revealed that they cannot break the traditions of this village.The villagers hope that this tradition will last a long time ahead.
