The regional traditional dance ritual celebrated during onam season across southern region of kerala. The art form was prominent in early days .The firmest edition of poopada varal is the traditional thiruvathira kali or kaikottikali. This art form was common during Onam festival at those days .

No singers or musicians accompany this dance.the dancers itself keep rhythm by singing and clapping.It  doesn’t have any type of any facial make up,separate costumes or mask.All the performers can wear there ordinary dress.The song is based on the kalamezthu stories,not based to any puranas. The audience can easily pick up the lyrics and can enjoy without any difficulties .It is take placed during evening section when all are free from their work .The performers are from different sections of the society.Show steal the heart of the audience .The troop include both men and women.The historical evidence state that this form is celebrated from thousand years from this day .This is only for social entertainment.It is not much popularized to the outer world and so nobody knows about this art form.There are so many types of art forms that are not being known by most of them.
