A Syndrome Which Every Cell Phone User Has-Phantom Vibration Syndrome

We all have felt our phone ringing even if it does not do in real. Many may interpret as this is due to getting used to this feeling, but surprisingly this is a syndrome termed as “PHANTOM VIBRATION SYNDROME”.

Phantom Vibration Syndrome is a phenomenon that a person experiences falsely. Dr Robert Rosenberger, a Philosopher tells that it is a phenomenon known as “Learned Bodily Habits”. According to the studies made, about 90% of the crowd suffer with this phenomenon. We all have felt it, may be once in a while, and we do feel this often.

Where Did This Syndrome Originate From

In the comic strip, Dilbert the cartoonist, referred such sensation as “Phantom-Pager Syndrome” in 1996. The term phantom vibration syndrome was first entitled in article published in the New Pittsburgh courier, written by Robert D. Jones. He stated that this sensation is likely because of the exposure to sensitive tones or vibrations on a consistent basis, regardless of the source, may have experienced variations long before cell phones came into existence.

What Research Says

Researchers on Human Behavior said that this is felt when the phone becomes a part of your body same as like wearing of specks. When you first put on your specks you don’t feel comfortable. When you start getting used to it, you will feel uncomfortable without it. This happens because it has become a part of your body. Same applies to your phone. Almost every human being carries with them their cellphone everywhere. And we have reached a generation where some take it to the bathroom’s as well. Now when we have made it such an important part of our life, its absence will haunt us.

Scientists say that people are so used to their phones that movement of clothing’s also is sensed as phone ringing. When your body gets used to something, it becomes your habit. Vibration from phone ringing happens daily and sometimes repeatedly. We get more used to the call vibration rather than than the phone.

A Psychology researcher defined this syndrome as being similar to “hallucination”, he explains it to be a feel where you fear to miss a call or a message, a feeling where someone wants to reach you but you fail to be responsive.  He says that, for many a call or a message may be a point of excitement, but to some it is a bit of obsession.

It Is Not Harmful But The Cause Should Be Bothered

The best part about this problem is that it is not harmful. Many ignore this feeling and some don’t even bother.

But the fact is that these gadgets or technologies are bothering you in some way or the other. Researchers are still on an examination over this topic, as it may not be harmful today but for the coming generations things may get problematic.
